Built Environment Workshop
Tuesday, January 22, 2019 | 8 am - 1 pm
9th Street Venue, 829 Klamath Avenue
Join Blue Zones Project® as we welcome Dan Burden to guide us in planning for our community’s future built environment work with the goal of creating better spaces and places for our residents to live, work, and play.
Dan Burden is an internationally recognized authority on livable communities, healthy streets, traffic calming, and bicycle and pedestrian programs.
A conversation about built environment isn’t just about bike lanes or sidewalks. Nor is it only about physical health and well-being. A well-designed built environment addresses many needs:
8:00 – 8:45 AM: Healthy Built Environments
Dan Burden and Blue Zones Project Built Environment committee leads will bring us up to date on our built environment achievements and note our remaining challenges, then outline potential tools, strategies and best practices for moving forward.
9:00 – 10:30 AM: Walking “Audit”
The walking audit will provide an opportunity to assess how the built environment could be made more pedestrian and bicycle friendly. The walk will be an opportunity to learn best practices for creating economically vibrant, walkable, livable, sustainable and resilient communities.
10:45 – 12:00 PM: Community Commitment & Priority Setting
This combined plenary and small-group planning session will focus on determining built environment priorities in Klamath Falls and sharing best practices. From this work a strategic action plan will be built. Measurable outcomes will be identified.
12:00 – 1:00 PM: Lunch; Action Planning Exercise
The group will refine priorities and build a list of actionable next steps for recommendations and learnings from the day. Individual groups will report out, and a blueprint will be created.
