Social Determinants of Health and GIS Data
Last summer community members from around Klamath Fals participated in the RealAge Test. We received a compilation of results from survey respondents as wel as Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) data and GIS maps helping to tel a story about the wel-being of our community across the county’s geography. In this article we’re going to take a look at the story that these maps te l us about our community. The map above demonstrates that people living in poverty have less access to green space in Klamath Fals. There are numerous benefits to having access to nature. Ensuring better access to green space should be something that is on our radar as a community.
Food Insecurity
Klamath County has a large percentage of SNAP users particularly in the downtown area.
Around 27% of Klamath County residents receive SNAP benefits highlighting both an area of economic and food insecurity.
Grocery access is the best by downtown Klamath Fals, but the percentage of families with access to groceries drops greatly as we move away from downtown and into outlying areas of the county.
Combatting Food Insecurity
Food insecurity is a pressing issue in Klamath County, but there are many community organizations that are stepping up to help combat the challenge.
